Our story
Why Roots & Wings exists.
A home built on one belief: a mother should never have to choose between getting well and being there for her children. Here, women and their children heal together, under one roof.
Why we exist
For too many mothers, getting help has meant leaving their children behind. We refuse to accept that. So we built a home where families heal together.
Most sober living asks a woman to choose: get well, or stay with your kids. For a mother, that is not really a choice at all, and so help gets put off again and again, until things get worse.
Roots and Wings was built to end that impossible choice. This is a safe, structured, substance-free home in Murrieta where a woman can do the real work of recovery and keep her children close while she does it. No mother should have to get well alone, and no child should have to wait on the other side of it.

If you are scared, read this
You are not the first mother to feel this way.
If you are afraid, or ashamed, or sure you have already used up every chance, please know this: every woman who has walked through our door felt some version of that first.
Being a good mother and needing help are not opposites. Reaching out is not giving up, it is one of the bravest things you can do for your children. Whatever brought you here, you will be met with respect and not one ounce of judgment.

What makes us different
Recovery and motherhood belong together.
Most homes treat a woman's children as a complication to work around. We see it the other way. Your children are not in the way of your recovery. Very often, they are the whole reason it matters.
So here there is room for your kids: a bed of their own, a yard to play in, and a household built around families, not around rules that pretend children do not exist.
What we believe
Four things we hold to, every day.
-
Dignity, always
You are a person in recovery, never a case number. Everyone here is spoken to with respect, on the hardest days most of all.
-
Family stays together
Your children are part of your recovery, not something you set aside to get well. We build the home around that truth.
-
Real, practical support
Not just a roof. Help getting to meetings, work, appointments, and school runs, and a steady routine you can actually keep.
-
No judgment, ever
Wherever you are starting from, and however many times you have tried before, you are welcome here exactly as you are.
Is this the right home for you?
Honest about the fit, both ways.
We would rather be straight with you now than have you arrive somewhere that was never going to work. Here is who this home is really for.
This is a good fit if
- You are a woman ready to live substance-free and do the daily work of recovery.
- You want your children with you, or you are working toward reunifying with them.
- You are looking for structure, routine, and a community that has your back.
- You want to be treated with respect while you rebuild, at your own pace.
This may not be the fit if
- You are looking for a detox or a licensed medical or clinical program. We are a sober living home, not a treatment facility.
- You are not yet able to arrive and stay substance-free.
- You are looking for a place with no structure or shared expectations.

From our founder
Why I started Roots & Wings.
I kept coming back to one thing I could not accept: that a mother in recovery is so often asked to choose between getting well and being there for her children. As if you have to set your kids down to pick yourself back up. No mother should ever have to make that choice.
So I built a home where she does not have to. A place where a woman can do the real work of recovery with her children right beside her, safe, supported, and treated with dignity every single day. If you are scared, or worn out, or certain you have used up your chances, I want you to know there is room for you and your family here, exactly as you are.
