What we ask of everyone

House rules, kept simple.

A calm, safe home runs on a little structure. These are the things every resident agrees to, and none of them are meant to catch you out. We walk through all of it with you before you move in, so nothing is ever a surprise.

An overview of the rhythms that keep the home calm and safe. We walk through the full Resident Handbook with you before you move in, and the rules are reviewed and updated from time to time.

  • Safety & a substance-free home

    • No alcohol, drugs, or non-prescribed medications, anywhere on the property. This is the one rule that keeps everyone safe.
    • Drug and alcohol testing, both random and when there is a reason. Declining a test counts the same as a positive one.
    • Any prescriptions are shared at intake and stored safely. We go over the full list of what is and isn't allowed with you.
    • Coming home under the influence is not something we can allow, for the safety of every woman and child here.
  • Respect & confidentiality

    • Everyone treats everyone with honesty and kindness. No aggression, threats, harassment, or discrimination.
    • What is shared inside this house stays in this house. Confidentiality is not up for debate.
    • Respect each other's space and belongings. If it isn't yours, ask first.
  • Your children

    • Your children are part of the home here, and genuinely welcome.
    • Little ones are arranged ahead of time and stay in your care while they are with you.
    • Overnight stays for your kids are set up with the House Manager.
  • A daily rhythm & curfew

    • A 10:00pm curfew, so the home stays calm and safe at night. Need a little longer? Just arrange it with the House Manager ahead of time.
    • A steady morning routine, shared household chores, and quiet hours everyone keeps.
    • Sign in and out, so we always know the house is safe and everyone is accounted for.
  • Staying in your recovery

    • Three to five recovery or growth meetings a week, whatever supports you: AA, NA, therapy, a program, or your own steady practice.
    • About twenty hours a week of productive time: work, school, volunteering, appointments, meetings, or the gym.
    • House meetings are part of life here, and we make them worth your time.
    • If you are struggling, tell us before it becomes a relapse. We would so much rather help than judge.
  • A shared, cared-for home

    • Keep shared spaces clean and considerate, so there is always hot water, a free bathroom, and a tidy kitchen for everyone.
    • Smoking and vaping only in the designated area outside, never indoors.
    • No candles, open flames, or weapons of any kind. Lock up when you head out, and tell us right away if something needs fixing.

The agreement

None of this is about control.

Every rule here exists for one reason: to protect the women and children who call this place home. Living at Roots and Wings means agreeing to keep them, for your own recovery and for everyone else's. And if something ever feels unclear, you can always ask. We would rather talk it through than leave you guessing.

Questions about any of these?

Ask us anything, before you decide.

There is no such thing as a silly question. Call us and we will walk through the rules, the home, and what life here really looks like, honestly.
